Ian is a Lecturer in Strength & Conditioning, a biomechanical PhD student (due to finish late 2018) and Head of Strength & Conditioning for Wigan Warriors Youth Academy. Ian effectively balances his time between being course leader for the BSc Strength & Conditioning, teaching postgraduate students, completing his PhD and moulding promising Rugby League players of the future. As a former Laboratory Demonstrator, Ian has a detailed understanding of the equipment within the SENS labs and how it can be effectively used. Ian is a sport scientist with a keen interest in biomechanics and understanding how different strength & conditioning principles/techniques influence the kinetics and kinematics of the human body.

Ian brings his experience from being a coach with a professional rugby team into the classroom, aiming to build self-sufficient researchers who are able to solve a problem with little intervention from staff. Ianβs mix of lectures and practical sessions allow the students to put theory into practice and implement appropriate interventions when applicable.
Ianβs research focusses mainly on loading strategies of resistance sled training, utilizing 3D motion capture cameras in conjunction with force platforms to perform his investigations.
