Stefan is a Lecturer in Exercise Science at the University of Central Lancashire. Prior to completing his PhD, Stefan spent 6 years working for the NHS in cardiovascular rehabilitation as an exercise specialist before pursuing a career in academia and research. During his PhD, Stefan has gained extensive experience in conducting maximal exercise tests (VO2MAX) on cardiac patientsβ post-myocardial infarction and bypass surgery, and subsequently prescribed high intensity interval training (HIIT) as part of a rehabilitation programme. Through his experience, Stefan has gained accreditation as a certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine; he is also a tutor for the British Association of Cardiac Prevention & Rehabilitation (BACPR). During his time with the NHS, Stefan completed an MSc in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at the University of Chester.

Stefanβs research interests focus on cardiovascular rehabilitation – he has published research within the Journal of Sports Medicine and the British Medical Journal and has presented his research at multiple conferences. Currently he is a researcher for the HIITorMISSUK study, a large multi-centre randomised control trial investigating the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in UK cardiac rehabilitation.
