Sarah Jane Hobbs is a world leading Equine Biomechanist. With a background in mechanical engineering, she assisted in the design and implementation of new show-jumping surface certification equipment and techniques as part of an international team. These techniques were implemented during the creation of the 2012 London Olympics equine arenas, ensuring they were fit for purpose and reduced dangers for both horses & riders. Sarahβs expertise spans both equine and human subjects; as such, she is a pivotal member of teaching staff with Posture & Injury and Applied Biomechanics modules.

- Post Graduate Certificate in Research Supervision, University of Central Lancashire.
- Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE, University of Central Lancashire.
- BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering – First Class, University of Central Lancashire.
Sarah is the lead researcher for work on surfaces with the RACES team, who were pivotal to the development of the FEI Equine Surfaces White Paper and routinely work with international research teams, governing bodies and laboratories from the USA, Sweden, Switzerland & France. Sarahβs research also covers the development of novel quantitative gait techniques, balance & stability in horses and riders and exploring the functional consequences of asymmetry in horses.
