Human MOT for Health

What is it?

Our Human MOT for health is designed to give you an insight into your current overall health. Our highly trained staff can accurately assess your muscle & fat mass as well as measurements of cardiovascular risk factors, such as cholesterol and blood pressure.

Why it is important:

This battery of tests will examine numerous measures associated with your health.

  • Cholesterol is utilised in many bodily functions and is essential for human health. However, in excess this can contribute to the development of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD).
  • Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in your body and important for many body functions. Excess energy (calories) from your diet will be stored as triglycerides in your fat cells. Overtime this can contribute to being overweight/obese and increase your risk of CVD and other diseases.
  • Glucose is an important source of energy for exercising muscles, the brain and other tissues and your body tightly controls blood glucose levels with the hormone insulin. High levels of glucose can indicate you are resistant to the effects of insulin, which if left unchecked can progress to Type 2 Diabetes, which increases your risk of CVD and other diseases.
  • Blood pressure is recorded with two values. The systolic pressure (higher number) is the force at which your heart pumps blood around your body. The diastolic pressure (lower number) is the resistance to the blood flow in the blood vessels. High blood pressure, or hypertension, rarely has noticeable symptoms. However, if untreated, it increases your risk of serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes.
  • Body Composition (SECA scales) relates to components that make up your body, such as muscle mass and fat mass. The assessment of muscle mass is relevant in many population groups, whether it relates to enhanced performance, aesthetics, or the effects of aging, which generally results in a reduction of muscle mass (Sarcopenia) affecting function and quality of life. Assessing fat mass is essential for good health. Excessive accumulation of fat can be detrimental to quality of life and function as well as increase your risk of CHD, Type 2 Diabetes and some cancers.

Benefits:

The Human MOT includes a variety of measures directly related to cardiovascular health. The results of these tests are immediate and we will be able to categorise your values for all the tests right away to identify if you are at an increased risk. Additionally, it will give you an idea of how your current lifestyle may be influencing some of these risk factors. A member of the consultancy team will discuss your results with you after the tests and you will be provided with a comprehensive report sheet detailing your results for each test.

Test protocol:

The Cholesterol, Triglyceride and Glucose all require small blood samples. All that is required is a few of drops, which we will obtain through three very small finger pricks.
